GREAT SPICES! GREAT PRICES!
When you're shopping for spices, go to the Hispanic Foods section ...look for Badia Brands. It's amazing at the difference in the price for the same thing you get in the baking aisle!!
The two most impressive buys from my trip yesterday were the Bay Leaves and the Spanish Saffron.
The Badia brand Bay Leaves were 79 cents!!!!! The same amount of bay leaves in the baking aisle were around $6, depending on what brand you purchased!!!!
The Spanish Saffron was $4.99!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME????
I also got Whole Nutmeg , Cinnamon Sticks, Chamomile and Rosemary for $.79 each.
Bottles of Basil, Curry and Whole Cloves were only $1.79 each.
The Oregano and Cumin were just $2.19 each.
Here's another secret - and, in my opinion, a BIG one...
olive oil
$7.39 for 1 liter
(33.8 fl oz.)
Are you kidding me????
RUN, DON'T WALK to the baking aisle...look at how much Olive Oil is!!! Then RUN BACK to the Hispanic Foods aisle and get that Olive Oil !!!! ( You could have just picked up the Badia first, but hey, this way you get in some exercise, too! )
If you've noticed, I wrote the prices I paid on each item. I'm going to try to do a cost-effective quote on recipes while I'm on this adventure. I think my Home Economics teachers, my 4H Home Economist and my Girl Scout Leader would be proud to see I'm finally putting into practice what I learned from them all those years ago!
Thanks Mrs. Heaton, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Williamson and Mrs. Doty!
